Father’s Day is celebrated universally every third Sunday of June. Falling on June 16 this year, this day is all about celebrating and acknowledging all the sacrifices our fathers have made to give us the wonderful upbringing we’ve all got.

History Behind Father’s Day

The idea of a special day to celebrate and honour fatherhood was first introduced in the United States in June, 1910. Since then it was celebrated on the third Sunday of June every year. Founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Dodd, Father’s Day first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil  War veteran William Jackson Smart Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there. After hearing a sermon about Jarvis' Mother's Day at Central Methodist Episcopal Church in 1909, she told her pastor that fathers should have a similar holiday honoring them. Although she initially suggested June 5, her father's birthday, the pastors did not have enough time to prepare their sermons, and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday of June.

Dad’s the Best

For every daughter, her father’s been her first love and for every son, his father’s been his constant confidante. From being a teacher, to a disciplinarian to a friend, our fathers have been there for us through every phase of our life and in every life altering experience that we’ve been through.

A while back we came up with different shades of mother we all see. We decided to run something similar for our beloved Dad’s. Hearts of hearts, whatever character our fathers play during our shaping years, their solo motto has always been to bring about the best in their children.
