MAA TUJHE SALAAM

MAA TUJHE SALAAM

India, the largest democracy in the world, celebrates its 70th Republic Day this January 26. As we all know on this day in 1950, India’s constitution officially came into effect and we went on to transition into a fully democratic and independent government system.

When the Indian flag unfurls at the Rajpath in New Delhi every year this day, a wave of patriotic fervor bursts inside each of us organically. While there are numerous factors that arouse the patriotic zeal in us, what our patriotic songs can do is unparalleled.

The patriotic songs have a surreal effect that brings together people from all walks, regions and religions into one strong, compassionate being we are- that of a true Indian. Our Indian culture is equally rich in its literature, music and vocals and our patriotic songs naturally permeate love, loyalty, integrity in us for India, our Motherland.

The humungously popular song Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo sung by revered Lata Mangeshkarji is a song that gives goose bumps to every Indian. While there are a number of strummed patriotic songs, this one holds a very special place in our history too and is as celebrated as our National Anthem Jan Gan Mann and National song Vande Matram. We all have grown up listening to this song and it instinctively invokes love and patriotism for India and our Indian Army inside each of us. This song was first performed live on January 27, 1963 for a fund raising event for the Army Welfare Fund post the Sino Indian War in 1962. Penned by Kavi Pradeep especially for this event, Lata ji sang this song at the National stadium in the presence of Chief Guests and the then President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and PM Jawaharlal Nehru. Such was the impact of this song on Nehru ji that he was moved to tears and went on record saying ”Those who don't feel inspired by Aye mere watan ke logo don't deserve to be called a Hindustani.”

Maa Tuhjhe Salaam sung by the very popular A.R Rehman is another patriotism imbuing song. Even more than two decades later since its inception, this beautifully written and sung song transports us high on patriotism. The iconic Sandese Aate Hain from the massive hit film Border beautifully unfolds the lives of our brave soldiers. The soulful Yeh Jo Des Hai Tera by A.R Rehman traces the beautiful bond we share with our Motherland. The harmonious Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyaara Hai stirs us every time we hear this song. Songs like Kar Chale Hum Fida, Ae Mere Pyaare Watan, Mera Rang De Basanti Chola, Ae Watan Ae Watan Humko Teri Kasam , Aao Bacchon, Mere Desh Ki Dharti, Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawaano Ka always manage to race our patriotic pulse and bring alive the harp of India!
