Sometimes, we’re convinced that all brides turn into lunatics for a little while before their wedding. The stress of planning a wedding can turn a sweet and normal girl into an unrecognizable and hyperactive monster, who does one or all of these things:

1. The ‘Princess Syndrome’  – We’ve coined this term to describe the way that (sometimes) even the most mild-mannered bride-to- be turns into the dreaded ‘Bridezilla’ before her wedding. You may hear the dreaded “This is my wedding and I’m a princess!” from a bride who wants everything exactly the way she imagined it.

2. Sky-High Tempers  – While not every bride is going to lose her temper, cry for no apparent reason and become super-cranky, many do. While the ‘Princess Syndrome’ affects some brides, others are stressed out because of the sheer enormity of the wedding planning process and all the tasks involved. Just understand and deal with it!

3. Packing and Re-Packing, Constantly  – Practically every bride we’ve ever known has practised packing for her honeymoon at some point during her wedding planning. She wants to carry everything she might need and more. Need we explain why this leads to anger, frustration and general crankiness? Expect a few tantrums, too!

4. Trying on the Wedding Trousseau  – It’s terribly exciting when that gorgeous bridal lehenga or sangeet cocktail saree arrives, so you want to try it on right away. What doesn’t make sense to most of us is why you want to wear it every time a friend comes over and sometimes even when you’re alone at home!

5. Admiring the Engagement Ring  – We get the fact that a beautiful engagement ring and the rock on it will keep catching your eye, but does it have to be stared at from every angle? As the soon-to- be bride, do you need to try it on with every outfit you own to see how it looks? Let’s be honest here – yes, you do!

6. Crash Diets and Exercise Routines  –You want to look beautiful at your wedding, and you’ve convinced yourself that you need to lose X kgs before the big day. Ladies, your fiancé fell in love with you the way you are, and a glowing bride is more beautiful than any other. Starving or extreme exercise regimes can leave you haggard and drawn, so pace it out!

7. New Beauty Treatments or Products  –The week before your wedding is not the time to try out a new skin/hair/body treatment or beauty product. You have no idea how it will react with your skin, the stress of the wedding and hereditary factors, yet practically every single bride falls for the marketing gimmick. Come on!

8. Spur-of- the-Moment Tattoos  –Ever since tattoos became such a huge trend, a disturbing new fad hit the pre-wedding market. New brides decide there is nothing more romantic than getting their partner’s name inked on them right before the wedding, which leads to awkward, half-healed tattoos showing up in wedding photos!

9. Inviting Everyone and More  –Most brides start out with a basic idea of small and intimate wedding celebrations, but as the wedding draws closer, your best friend wants to bring her new boyfriend along, or your maternal aunt insists her husband’s brother’s son must be there too. Before you know it, your guest list has doubled. Resist!

10. Second-Guessing Everything  –While it’s important to get everything right, most brides end up thinking too much about every little detail. Thanks to the thousands of pins they’ve added on Pinterest, the dilemma becomes even more complex. Does forest green look better than mehendi green for the ribbon around the centrepiece? They look the same!

We know this is the most important day of your life and you want it to be perfect, but take some time off to relax. Think about the happiness you will share with your partner, ask loved ones for help, hang out with your best friends, have practise hair and makeup sessions and indulge in a bit of retail therapy, instead of letting your wedding drive you crazy!
