The month of September sees celebrations and festivities galore in India. While Hindus dance to the chants of Ganesha, its time for the Muslim community all over the world to revel in the celebrations of EID UL ZUHA or BAKR-ID. EID UL ZUHA or the Feast of sacrifice is one of the most significant Islamic festivals. The celebration day of Eid ul-zuha is decided on the basis of sighting of the moon, marking the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca. Normally, the auspicious day is observed on tenth day of the twelfth month of the lunar-based Islamic calendar.

ORIGIN AND HISTORY

EID UL ZUHA, better known as Bakr Id in India is the feast of Sacrifice or the festival of offering. It is believed that on this day Prophet Ibrahim sacrificed his own 13 year old son to honor the word of The almighty and since he passed God's test of devotion, His son was brought back to life as a lamb. Since that day Bakr Id is celebrated to commemorate this great sacrifice by Ibrahim and is a remembrance of Allah's clemency.

CUSTOMS AND RITUALS

Eid Ul Zuha is the ritual of sacrifice where a Goat or Bakra is sacrificed in the name of the lord. The day begins with prayers to the almighty and Muslims gather in huge numbers at mosques to offer their  devotions collectively. From the Hazratbal in Srinagar to The Jama Masjid in Delhi and Haji Ali in Mumbai, this festival is celebrated with great fervor everywhere in India and in Islamic nations of the world. As per the customs, the feast is divided into three parts-  one for the family, one is shared with relatives and friends and the third portion is served to poverty-stricken people. The revelries continue for  three days of the holy month before the sun sets on the 13th day of the month.

DRESS UP IDEAS FOR EID UL ZUHA

Dressing Up for EID UL ZUHA reflects the Islamic Culture and their values. While dressing up for Eid is one of the most popular rituals of the festival amongst women and youth, it is kept pristine and traditional in observance with the Islamic laws. While men are seen in Kurta Payjamas(mostly white), women love to flaunt colorful garbs that reflect their joy and vivaciousness around the celebrations.

From ghagras to shararas and Anarkalis, women love to look their best on this occasion. This year also the trends are more towards Shararas and palazzos but the straight suits aren't too popular this time around. So you will see a resurgence of A line suits or Anarkalis with both shararas and leggings. The Hijab or Naqab has also taken a more glamorous twist as seen even on the NYFW runways currently and slightly sheer forms are being flaunted by modern Muslim women without breaking the rules of their tradition. The color palette that's trending is very fall- deep jewel tones are dominant and in trend.
