The month of February is symbolic of the arrival of spring or basant which is an auspicious time for weddings all over India. Indian Weddings are synonymous with celebration, dance, merry-making and endless ceremonies for the involved families.
The precursor to the d day includes some very entertaining and fun filled ceremonies including the MEHNDI CEREMONY. This is the occasion when the bride to be officially becomes READY to be a BRIDE. It's a part of her SOLAH SHRINGAAR and is her time to enjoy, dance and celebrate with her near and dear ones before she steps into her new world.
What essentially is the mehndi/sangeet party all about? Since it is supposed to be one of the most happening and young nights of all the wedding ceremonies, there are some really exciting ideas that one can implement for a super rocking mehndi ceremony-
Here's a few ideas from our side-
1) THE DECOR/THEME
Everything today has to follow a concept. Mehndi is about color, brightness, dancing masti and lots more. The venue should be in tandem with that spirit. A farmhouse, open lawn with flowing tents, booming music and lots of great food. Saffron ,green, red ,white can be the chosen colors for adorning the venue. One can use lots of flowers and other natural decorations for the same.
2) OUTFIT
Just like everything else, Dressing up for the occasion is also an integral part of the celebrations. The bride not only has to apply mehndi, and dance her heart out ,but also wear something that is comfortable, and stylish at the same time. It's her day and she has to stand out! Outfit in Floral prints or motifs or embellishments that add to the entire vibe of the ceremony. From sharply tailored Achkans, to flowy anarkalis and lehngas, to slinky,sexy cholis with elaborate ghagras, there are amazing options and choices to pick from. Think floral decor, smiling faces and colorful clothing!
The men can opt for floral and phulkari coats achkans or if they aren't too daring then a colorful kurta payjama matching that of his bride's or the theme would also do well.
3) JEWELRY
The bride is free to bring out her creative side on her mehndi. Floral ornaments or traditional heavy jewelry, it's her choice to match the jewelry with her outfit. However we suggest that the adornment be kept minimalistic as she will have to go through a strenuous day and it will build up to an exciting wedding where she can go all out with heavy jewelry.
A statement maang tika, danglers with a delicate neckpiece should do for the day. The hands and feet should be kept free for the henna tattoo. Or she could wear a head chain too for that boho look.
She can also experiment with floral jewelry for that HATKE look.
4) MUSIC
Play the music put loud Dj coz "AJ TEH SAB NACHNA!" Mehndi functions are all about high spirits lots of crazy endless dancing and mad high spirits. Bring on the best of bollywood music or traditional mehndi songs by the ladies or special performances by friends and family, the idea is about having a swell time! Bring in the dhols if you may..nothing beats the magic of desi nagaras if you really want to dance!
5) ADDING THE ZING WITH PROPS
It's the celebration of a new beginning and a new life. Now a days it is the norm to encapsulate and capture the couple's special moments and memories and showcase them in the form of portraits ,huge hangings photo props, customized tents and decoratives . The entire vibe of the ceremony should resonate with the feeling of the bond between the bride and groom and also with their near and dear ones. Do up the venue in a way that everywhere you look, there is a bit of this celebration in a visual avatar.
