Diwali is one of the most dazzling festivals that Hindus, Sikhs and a lot of other religions celebrate. The festival of Diwali reminds us of the festive season of joy, splendor, enthusiasm and happiness. It is the festival of lights and is celebrated with great excitement by all Indians all over the world. The celebrations kick off with Dhanteras and continue for a good 5 days, ending with Bhai Dooj. Its nothing short of a carnival of joy and cheer sprinkled with a generous dose of sweets, diyas and crackers!
From darkness into light, from ignorance to knowledge, from unhappiness into bliss, this, indeed, is the true and deep message that the festival of Diwali brings every year with its joyous celebrations.
We all know the legend behind Diwali celebrations. The day marked the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after his 14 years of Banwaas. People of Ayodhya welcomed him back by lighting rows of diyas along the entire kingdom and sweets were distributed to mark the occasion. The tradition continues as we light up our homes, offices and consequently our hearts with bright and cheerful lights.
The glorious and rich multicultural heritage of India is adorned with a plethora of fascinating festivals that celebrate the very essence of this nation i.e. unity in diversity. Diwali is certainly one of the most significant Hindu festivals celebrated across India. People in North, South, East and West, everyone celebrates this day in their own special way.
So while in North India, we decorate the house with Rangoli, light diyas and worship Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha, people in the east pray to Goddess Kali. Diwali festivities are commenced in the morning in South India and west India sees Diwali as Narkachaturdashi, where the fireworks symbolize the power of good over evil.
DIWALI CELEBRATIONS- MAKE A DIFFERENCE
New clothes, sweets, decorated homes, exchange of gifts, delectable food, card parties, Puja and everything..we know it all and we do it all with great enthusiasm and gusto. But this Diwali, let's just spread the cheer and light up somebody else's life too. Rather than spending lavishly on crackers that add to environmental pollution, indulge in the kind act of charity and light up somebody's life. There are tons of underprivileged, homeless, destitute who are waiting to feel the festival. Maybe do your bit to make their lives better and make this Diwali extra special and more humanitarian. This after all a time for good beginnings, a time to celebrate the triumph of good over evil and to cherish each and every relationship that we have in our lives.
Also, pledging for a noise free and environment friendly is the need of the hour, do your bit.
