The Legendary Sridevi's sudden demise has come as a shock to everyone. It's hard to believe that the eternally gorgeous, bubbly, classy and super talented actress is just no more no more. Her death has come as a shock and a reminder to all of us to let go of all the petty issues and worries  and live life to the fullest while we can.

 

Sridevi has a Bollywood career spanning a mammoth 50 years in the 54 years of her existence as she started working as a child actor at the age of 4. She has worked in a variety of regional and Hindi films since then with the Tamil Film THUNAIVAN (1967) being her debut and the upcoming Shahrukh Khan starrer ZERO, where she plays herself as her very last silver screen appearance.

BIOGRAPHY

 

Sridevi was born on August 13, 1963 in her father's hometown of Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, India.  Her birth name was SHREE AMMA YANGER AYYAPAN and she was nicknamed PUPPY by her loved ones. She made her foray on the Bollywood tinsel screen in 1975 as a child actor with the smash-hit 'Julie' in which she played the younger sister of the lead actress. Thereafter she started to act in adult roles in Hindi only from 1979.

In her career that spanned from 1967 through to 2007, She appeared in 63 movies in Hindi; 62 in Telugu; 58 in Tamil; and 21 in Malyalam .

LANDMARK  ROLES

 

Sridevi was extremely masterful and could portray any role with such ease and deftness- be it the seductress, the diva or the goofball. The original comedienne of Indian cinema, her role in the movie Chaalbaaz earned her the Filmfare best Actress award too. She made some memorable movies with established actors such as Kamal Hasan, Rajneekanth and Jeetendra . SADMA and VARUMAIYIN NIRAM SIVAPPU( 1980) were critically acclaimed films with the versatile Kamal Hassan. Her initial claim to fame was appearing as romantic interest to established stars NTR, ANR, Krishna Ghattamaneni,Vishnuvardhan in Telugu and Kannada films from 1978-1985.

She has four hits with Rajesh Khanna and then from late 80's till 1996 her pair with Anil Kapoor was popular. But she became popular all over India, thanks to Tamil films' remakes in Hindi in 1983-1990 which were produced and directed by the same team which had made the southern version first and in these films she was cast opposite Rajesh Khanna or Jeetendra. She did 16 films with Jeetendra out of which 11 were super hits.

Her role in Yash Chopra's Chandni remains etched in our memories as one of her most popular onscreen personas besides numerous other popular avatars in Chaalbaaz, Lamhe, Jaanbaaz, Nagina, Roop Ki Rani, Choron Ka Raja etc.

 

Truly one of the first Superstars of Indian cinema, Shri has also appeared in the TV series 'Malini Iyer', judged a TV show 'Kaboom' and has been the face of numerous print and TV ads. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Asian Academy of Film & Television and was a favorite muse with many fashion designers including MANISH MALHOTRA.

SRIDEVI's COMEBACK

 

After a 15 year's hiatus, Sri made her comeback with the critically acclaimed film ENGLISH VINGLISH which was also India's entry to the Academy Awards that year. Her last film MOM was also extremely impressive.

 

SRIDEVI'S PERSONAL LIFE

Sridevi was married to Bollywood Producer Boney Kapoor. This was her second marriage after being married to Mithun for 3 years, a marriage she was accused of not revealing to the media. She has two daughters Jhanvi and Khushi who are on the threshold of making their Bollywood foray.

Sridevi's favorite Bollywood actor was Shahrukh Khan, her favorite holiday destination was the US and she loved gorging on Rice Rasam, Vanilla ice cream and Strawberries.

SRIDEVI'S DEATH

 

This epitome of grace and beauty breathed her last on 24th February 2018 in Dubai where she was attending her husband's nephew, Mohit Marwah's wedding function. It is said that her cause of death was accidental drowning. Our heart goes out to her family and may god give them strength and dignity to face this devastation.
