Last year saw some major Bollywood indulgence with filmmakers churning out great stories to entertain the audience with a plethora of different genres. 2016 promises to be even more exciting with some majorly awaited projects lined up with the beloved Khans, Bachhans and Kapoors all set to blow our minds away. We are a nation obsessed with the Film Industry and rightfully so. When Stars like Aamir, Ranveer, Amitabh Bachhan or Shahrukh churn out exciting content for their die hard 'Fans', its only logical to show major love and excitement for more! Here's looking at what will keep us on tenterhooks this year and which movies are awaited with a bated breath-
1. WAZIR
Wazir is going to be one of the first much anticipated release of 2016 with a Hollywood level plot and a stellar star cast comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Aditi Rao Hyadri in the lead roles and John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Manav Kaul in supporting roles. The movie was originally written in English and was supposed to be Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first Hollywood film with Dustin Hoffman as the protagonist. However, the unfortunate passing away of producer Robert Newmyer brought the project to a halt.
2. RAEES
If the promos are anything to go by, this movie will definitely leave a mark. Shahrukh Khan looks befitting as the mean protagonist of the story and with Pakistani actress Mahira Khan making her Bollywood debut, this movie is a must watch. The film very boldly criticizes the prohibition of alcohol, prostitution and illegal drugs in the state of Gujarat.
3. AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL
What would you expect when Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Imran Abbas and Fawad Khan come together in a unique love story? Fireworks ofcourse. This romantic flick from a hit team is sure to make us want more.
4. FAN
Its Sharukh V/s Shahrukh in this emotional drama of the sotyr of a superstar and his biggest fan. Ileana D’cruz plays the female lead and the movie has similarities with the blockbuster Darr. The movie boasts of Greg Cannom, three-time academy award winner make-up artist as SRK’s makeup expert, a replica of SRK’s Mannat and exotic shoot locations from Croatia to London to Mumbai and Delhi. We are hoping this to be quiet a vision!
5. DANGAL
It has Aamir Khan, its a sports biography and the story has a resounding emotional connect with the reality of our country. When Mr perfectionist picks a movie and gains 30kgs for a role, you know you want to watch it. Dangal is sports biographical drama about Mahavir Singh Phogat who taught wrestling to his daughters, who went on to win at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. We await!
6. KI AND KA
A movie based on gender role reversal in India and the with the fiesty Kareena Kapoor and hunky Arjun Kapoor in leading roles, we surely would want to watch this one. Ki and Ka is a romantic comedy-drama by R. Balki. The film’s plot revolves around bringing about a realization of the gender roles in the Indian society and how a couple’s marriage strongly challenged them.
7. SULTAN
Sultan marks the return of Bollywood's king Salman Khan who gave us the multimillion grosser BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN last year. Its a movie a Haryana-based wrestler for which Salman took wrestling lessons from international fight choreographer, Larnell Stovall. MMA fighters like Tyron Woodley and others are cast opposite Salman in this sports drama.
8. ROCK ON 2
Rock On 1 was a cosmopolitan drama about friends struggling to find their foothold. The movie touched chords with viewers and made Farhan a heartthrob. Rock On 2 looks as promising and beautiful with Shraddha Kapoor joining the talented star cast for this one. Shot in Shillong, this one is going to be a musical, visual and theatrical treat for all.
We are eagerly looking forward to watching these movies break records at the box office. A treat ahead for cine lovers awaits!
