Five Days of Diwali

The festival of Diwali is a mark of triumph of good over evil, of purity and of bringing light into the lives of people around us. The grand festival of Diwali is celebrated with utmost enthusiasm for a period of five days.

This auspicious day is also known as Naraka Chaturdarshi, the colossal demon Narakasura was killed by Lord Krishna on this day. In the southern part of India, this day is celebrated as the main Diwali day.

This is the main day of the 5 day festival. Observed on the new moon of Kartik, it was on this day that Lord Ram returned along with Sita and Lakshman to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile after defeating the emperor of Lanka, Raavan.

Govardhan Puja

This is the fourth day of Diwali. Also known and celebrated as Pratipada, Annakut or Balipadyami across the country, this day is all about feasting and gorging on home made delicacy.

According to mythological legends, it was on this day that Lord Krishna lifted the hefty mountain Govardhan on his little finger to rescue the villagers from the torrential downpour.
