Ganesh Chaturthi is a time when people turn their homes literally into pious temples in an endeavor to welcome Ganesha, the lord of prosperity and joy . A time for festivities, joy, celebration and fanfare, Ganeshotsav is celebrated not just in Maharashtra but elsewhere as well with much gusto around this time of the year. As much as the celebration is zestful, somehow its aftereffects are quite the opposite, especially when it comes to immersion of the Ganesha idol and decorations. Thankfully, rising environmental awareness has brought in some sense among Ganapati devotees in the past few years. Along with Eco Friendly Ganesha idols, the decorations have gone green as well.
We talked about some amazing Green Ganesha idols last year and here are a few decor ideas to go eco friendly with it now-
1. USE CLAY
If the idol can be made of clay why not do the same with the decor? Get creative with your clay and make interesting backgrounds, forts, castles, mountains, the imagination can get as bold as possible. Paint it beautifully so that you can use it later as a showpiece at your home.
2. FLOWERS, BAMBOOS, GRASS
What would make the Lord happier than a scenic green surrounding? Use bamboo sticks, lay a grass carpet( you can grow grass fast on a ply board and create a mini garden). Decorate with flower pots, long bamboo shoots and beautiful garlands of your favorite flowers.
3. PAPER MACHE
Use origami sheets, paper folding and paper mache techniques to create beautiful backgrounds and decorations for Ganesha.
4. USE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES FOR DECORATION
Go natural, decorate Ganpati makhar with fruits and vegetables. Use grapes, peas,apples, pineapples, lady finger, brinjal and beans for decorations
5. WALL MOUNT
We all have LED or LCD TVs mounted at are home right? Why not use the TV as a background with beautiful changing wallpapers. A pen drive consisting of beautiful wallpapers could be attached to the television with an active slideshow of those pictures. Then see the magic on how you can see a different decoration for the Ganapati every minute. The wall unit could be further decorated with flowers of ribbons to add to the beauty.
6. DECORATE WITH SAREES AND CLOTH
There are endless ways to use cloth as drapes and shapes for decoarions. Convert your saree into mountains by attaching poles beneath or just drape it as a background. Use dupattas as curtains or free streams just like the ones we use on birthdays. Twist and knot the cloth to create interesting shapes and patterns. Lord Ganesha will definitely feel pleased!
7. PEACOCK DECORATION
Peacocks have always had a special place in all things art and creative. Lets use this classic art for decorating our Ganesha beautifully this year. You can use need the peacock feathers available in the market and make peacock faces, add some more design to it using paper, paints and thermocol. Use a cabinet to place the Ganeshji and now décor the entire cabinet with peacocks and their feathers .This is one of the simplest and unique decoration ideas. You can also use glitters and decorative embellishments in order to enhance the look of your décor.
8. DIVINE DECOR WITH SCENTED, ECO FRIENDLY CANDLES
There are different varieties of scented candles available in the market in order to plan an absolutely unique Ganpati decoration. Candles in various colors, sizes, and designs can be used. Create interesting patterns with lights around your idol. There are also lamps and candles available that are fitted with bulbs. Just place few such candles in between the others and light them up to have a sparkling and fragrance full decoration for the Ganpati.
